Ideas you can do today that are simple, easy:

Color. Meditate. How to Create Joy. How to be happy.

Add color into your life. Our moods often brighten or darken, so you can start feeling better by decorating your apartment. Choose colors and patterns you love.

Wear bright colors. Something as simple as wearing some colors to reflect your personality can help you be happy and cultivate joy.

Let more sunlight into your apartment.

Some of the best advice I’ve found is from Prevention’s How to Find Joy in Your Everyday Life (Even When Life Feels Awful). Make room for a passion. You can create a sustainable, meaningful, and purposeful life by creating the space to do what you love, even if it’s 15 minutes.

Read a book about joy to get your gears turning about happiness.

Prioritize taking care of yourself. Don’t feel guilty about taking time for you and doing things that make you calm.

One of my favorites comes from Success’s 11 Simple Ways to Find Joy in Your Everyday Life. Appreciate the small things. If you make a habit of noticing little things that bring joy and celebrate real life, it can really add up. 

After reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, my life changed. If you make a deep connection with the current moment and live in the present (rather than the past or future), your life perspective can change dramatically, and you can start to find joy in the mere fact that you are alive.

Savor the meaningful moments. Thrive Globals’ The Top 8 Ways to Find Your Joy in 2020 reminds us to focus on the positive and savor the moments that have a powerful meaning, rather than thinking all day about something negative like an embarrassing moment or mistake at work.

Do a fun writing prompt: Write about something that brings you joy. Write about a dream vacation. 

Meditate. How to Create Joy. How to Be Happy.

Connect with nature by hiking or going to the beach. Savor the trees and the waves and really focus on how you’re feeling. Studies have shown that spending time in nature helps us to be happy.

Meditate. I meditate for 10 minutes every day using the Headspace app. You can also find free guided meditations on Youtube. Meditating keeps me grounded and helps me enjoy every moment I can. 

Monitor what you’re watching and reading. I’m all for keeping up with the news. But you should also be aware of certain content is having a sustained negative effect on you. If that’s happening, consider limiting your consumption or taking a break.

Pick just a few of these ideas to try and see how they make you feel. At the end of the day, the habits you build will ideally cultivate daily joy for you. Don’t forget that inner peace is the key to making joy happen every day.
